About PNAS Early Edition Articles

PNAS articles are published online at www.pnas.org in a feature called PNAS Early Edition, as soon as they are accepted and final author changes are made. Release of articles became daily on June 17, 2002. The date of online release is posted on the website and is the official date of publication. Papers are published online each business day 1 to 5 weeks before they appear in print. PNAS can now offer publication in as little as 3.5 weeks after acceptance to authors who return their proofs quickly.

If you learn about a PNAS article in the news media, but cannot find the article, it may not have been published yet. After Monday at 5PM EST, journalists may report on all articles expected to publish that week in Early Edition. Because PNAS publishes daily online, you may read about an article in the news on Monday or Tuesday, but the article may not publish online until later in the week. You may use the CiteTrack feature www.pnas.org/help/citetrack to set up an e-mail alert to notify you as soon as the article you are interested in publishes. For more information about PNAS in the news, please email the PNAS communications department at PNASnews{at}nas.edu.

When papers appear in print, they are removed from Early Edition and grouped with other papers in an issue. The official publication date appears below each title (e.g., PNAS January 31, 2000), followed by the Digital Object Identifier (DOI), an automatically generated unique identifier for intellectual property in the digital environment (e.g., 10.1073/pnas.010123497).
